Electric Cooktop Zone Not Heating: What to Note

For a solid-plate or radiant electric cooktop, a zone that does not heat is different from induction cookware not being detected. Identify the heating type before describing the fault or following any instructions.

IMPORTANT

Observe safely.

This guide describes useful clues, not a confirmed diagnosis. Parts, price and service availability need to be discussed from the appliance and location details.

Describe the zone and selected function

Record whether it is a solid hotplate or a radiant zone beneath glass, and whether a dual or extended area is selected. On some models the outer ring has a separate control action. Check the manual so an inactive outer ring is not mistaken for a failed complete zone.

Radiant elements can cycle on and off to regulate output; they do not necessarily glow continuously at every setting. Use what you observed during ordinary cooking rather than touching the surface or leaving a zone on unattended to see whether it eventually glows. A residual-heat indicator is a warning, not a temperature test.

Separate one affected zone from the whole cooktop

Note whether controls and indicators respond and whether the symptom affects one area or every zone. A control lock, timer or power interruption can alter operation. Read the exact model instructions before changing settings, and do not repeatedly reset electrical protection.

A cracked surface or damaged control changes the next step: stop using the cooktop rather than relying on the other zones. Likewise, if heating continues after the normal control is turned off, isolate only at a safe accessible identified switch and seek assistance. Do not remove a knob or lift the glass to investigate.

The affected zone and control response help frame an enquiry through our cooktop repair enquiry service.

Prepare information without choosing a part

A zone, switch, sensor, connection or control system may be involved, and visible symptoms do not reliably distinguish them. Report whether the change was sudden, intermittent or followed a spill or recent installation. Include any unusual sound or smell already noticed; do not recreate it for a recording.

Provide the model from accessible paperwork if the rating plate is concealed below the bench. Do not remove drawers, oven units or electrical covers to reach it. A useful description names the affected zone, the control response and whether the rest of the cooktop behaved normally before you stopped using it.

SAFE CHECKS

What to note before you enquire.

  1. Identify solid-plate, radiant or induction type.
  2. Read dual-zone selection, lock and timer indicators.
  3. Record affected zones and normal-use behaviour without touching the surface.
When to stop using it

Stop for cracked glass, uncontrolled heat, burning smells or trips. Do not test elements, remove knobs or open electrical covers.

PREPARE THE ENQUIRY

Details that reduce guesswork.

Useful details

  • Model, heating type and zone position
  • Control and indicator response
  • Recent spill, installation or intermittent behaviour

When to arrange an assessment

Request assessment for a zone that repeatedly fails to heat with the correct settings, or any loss of safe heat control.

GUIDE QUESTIONS

Before you take the next step.

Must a radiant zone glow continuously?

No. Cycling can be part of heat regulation. Note whether cooking performance changed and follow the model instructions rather than touching the surface.

Can I use other zones if the glass is cracked?

No. Stop using the cooktop and arrange assessment. A crack is a safety concern for the appliance, not just the marked zone.

Discuss the next step.

Service options depend on your model, location and access. A guide cannot confirm the diagnosis or repair cost.
