If heat will not stop, treat that as urgent
Controls that will not start cooking are different from controls that will not stop heating. If the oven continues heating when switched off normally, do not leave it unattended or keep testing buttons. Isolate it only at a safe, clearly identified accessible switch and seek appropriate assistance. Do not pull a built-in oven out to reach wiring.
For smoke, a burning electrical smell, repeated circuit trips or a gas smell, stop troubleshooting. With a gas smell, avoid operating electrical switches, leave the area and follow local emergency guidance. The next step is safety, not resetting a clock or trying another cooking mode.
Read lock, clock and timed-cooking indicators
Following a power interruption, some ovens need the clock or a manual-cooking state set before functions respond. A control lock, delayed start or programmed end time can also affect operation. Use the instructions for the exact model; button combinations from another oven can enable a different setting.
Record whether the display is entirely dark, shows a time, flashes a symbol or accepts some buttons but not others. A working light or fan does not establish that all power and control functions are normal. Do not remove knobs or control panels to inspect contacts.
For controls that remain unresponsive, describe the display and affected functions in an oven repair enquiry service.
Observe the control surface and recent changes
When the oven is off and cool, remove objects resting on a touch panel and clean only as directed in the manual. Moisture after cleaning can affect some interfaces, but persistent unresponsiveness should not be attributed to moisture without evidence. Do not spray cleaner into gaps or apply heat to dry the controls.
Tell the repairer which buttons respond, whether a beep occurs, and if the issue followed cleaning, a spill, a power cut or installation. Include the fuel type and any code. Those details help distinguish settings from a control, supply or sensing issue without promising that a reset or replacement board will fix it.
