Map the affected functions
Note whether one lamp, both lamps, one fan speed or every function is affected. A control that beeps but does not switch a light provides different information from a completely dark touch panel. Include whether the issue is continuous or appeared after cleaning or a power interruption.
Check the exact model’s instructions for control locks, delayed shutoff and remote-control features where fitted. Do not assume a timer keeping the fan running is a fault, and do not try button combinations from unrelated products. If operation cannot be safely controlled, stop use and seek assistance.
Treat lighting replacement as model-specific
Some hoods have lamps designated for user replacement; others use integrated LED modules or drivers that require service. Consult the manual before removing any cover. Only undertake explicitly permitted user lamp replacement with the specified isolation, cooling and lamp rating instructions.
Do not substitute a higher-wattage lamp, pry out a sealed LED module or reach into a fitting to test voltage. A replacement lamp failing immediately, a discoloured fitting or heat marks are reasons to leave it alone. A dark LED does not establish whether the light source, driver, switch or supply is responsible.
For integrated lights or controls that need assessment, explain the affected functions through our rangehood repair enquiry service.
Keep cleaning away from control internals
On an off, cool hood, clean only the accessible surface as directed. Do not spray liquid into buttons or gaps or use heat to dry a wet control panel. If a spill or cleaning liquid entered the controls, mention it and avoid repeated attempts to energise the appliance.
Provide the model and a simple function list: fan speeds that respond, lights affected and any indicator or beep. Mention installation height and access restrictions without climbing onto a cooktop or benchtop to reach a hidden label. These details help a repairer determine suitable assessment and parts enquiries.
